What types of Centrelink benefits do you consider?
There are a whole range of different types of benefits that can be included as part of your total annual income when applying for an instant cash loan. These include:
- Aged Pension
- Disability Support (NDIS) Pension
- Veterans’ Affairs Pension
- Carer Payments
- Parenting Payment
- Child Care Subsidy
- Family Tax Benefits A and B
- JobSeeker payments (when supplementing Family Tax Benefits)
However, it’s important to be mindful of the fact that not all Centrelink income streams are accepted. If you receive the following, these will not be counted towards your total annual income when applying for an instant cash loan:
- JobSeeker payments (in other circumstances)
- Youth Allowance
- Austudy
- Abstudy
The reason that these aren’t accepted in the same way that other forms of Centrelink payments are is that they’re not considered stable income. These are conditional based upon being in a certain employment or study position, which could change. For example, JobSeeker applies to people who are unemployed and looking for a job, with recipients becoming ineligible to receive it once they find employment.
Similarly, Youth Allowance has an age cap and is (in some cases) contingent on looking for work. This means that recipients of these payments could feasibly lose an income stream after taking on their loan if it were accepted.

Your instant cash loans on Centrelink questions answered
What can I use an instant cash loan for?
There aren’t really any restrictions on what you can use your instant cash loan funds for. You’re free to distribute the funds how you like, whether that be for an emergency, car repairs or something as simple as furniture.
You can even use a cash loan to consolidate debt if you have credit card bills piling up that you’re struggling to manage. You won’t be able to use a cash loan to directly pay off another cash loan, however.
How do I ensure I get my funds on the same day?
There are a few things you can do to maximise your chances of fast, same-day approval. Firstly, applying as early in the day as possible is a simple yet effective way to do this, as it will be at a far lower risk of being processed overnight compared to applying in the evening. Also, having your documents ready to go ahead of time will save on any hold-ups.
Am I eligible to apply for a loan?
Same-day cash loan applicants must be at least 18 years of age and hold citizenship or permanent residency. They must also be able to display a regular, consistent income over the past 90 days in the form of their bank statements.
How much will my instant cash loan cost?
Small loans come with two main fees: an application fee and ongoing service fees. An application fee is a one-off charge evenly distributed throughout your monthly repayments worth up to a maximum of 20% of your loan amount (capped at $400 for loans above $2,000). Ongoing fees are charged with each instalment at a rate of 4% of your loan amount (capped at 48% p.a. for loans above $2,000).
Can I pay off my loan early?
Yes – cash loans come with no early repayment fees, which means you can pay it off as quickly as you like without incurring additional fees. This is a great way to potentially save hundreds of dollars on ongoing fees. However, you will have to pay your application fee in full as part of paying off your loan early.
Are there any alternatives to an instant cash loan if I’m on Centrelink?
Yes – as a Centrelink recipient, you may be eligible to apply for a cash advance on your benefits and have funds taken out of future payments. The amount you can borrow varies depending on your personal Centrelink situation and changes from year to year.
For example, while Age and Disability Support Pension and Carer Payment recipients are eligible for advances over $1,000 every six months, most other benefit types are only eligible for a maximum of $500. However, these are only suitable for smaller amounts and can’t extend up to $5,000 like cash loans.
Can I get an instant cash loan with no credit check if I'm unemployed?
No – you can’t get an instant cash loan with no credit check, even if you’re unemployed. Reputable lenders always run checks of your borrowing history before approving any loan.
